Method
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking dish.
Steam or blanch the broccoli florets until tender-crisp, about 3-5 minutes. Drain well and pat dry to remove excess moisture.
In a large bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, 3/4 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
Add the drained broccoli florets to the mixture and stir gently until the broccoli is evenly coated.
Pour the broccoli mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the casserole.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the cheese on top is melted and lightly golden.
If using, sprinkle the crumbled bacon over the top before serving.
Let stand for a few minutes before serving warm.
